Shape the physical appearance/image of downtown; Manage façade improvement
program; Coordinate planter project
 
Work toward enhancing the physical appearance of downtown by capitalizing on
its assets and heritage, including: streets, signs, buildings, public space, and store displays.
 This includes encouraging excellence in:
  • Beautification projects (Umuganda Corydon last Saturday mornings of each month)
  • Rehabilitating historic buildings
  • Complementary new construction
  • Developing design management systems
  • Retail merchandising and window displays
  • Long- term planning

Attract and retain downtown businesses; Renovate & lease Conrad Building; Kiva zip trustee program
 
Work  toward strengthening downtown’s economic base while finding ways to expand it to meet new opportunities for development. This includes creating and nurturing an entrepreneurial spirit, through:

Research:
  • regional market and consumer trends to get a realistic picture of what market mix will work to create a vibrant downtown
  • conduct an ongoing inventory of all buildings and properties
  • surveying existing businesses and residents to determine community needs
Planning:
  • retail mix
  • strengthened the  tax base
Incentives:
  • façade improvement program
  • business incentive program
Recruitment:
  • actively recruit businesses identified as having a high potential for success
Encouraging Entrepreneurs:
  • Review business plans of potential new downtown businesses and serve as mentors

Market downtown as the hub of commerce, culture and community life; plan key downtown events
 
Work toward creating an image of energy and excellence through marketing campaign that includes:
  • Retail promotion
  • Annual events (Light up Corydon,  Scenic 62 Yard Sale and others)
  • Publicity and advertising
  • Publications (inventory existing publications and evaluate effectiveness)
  • Facebook and social media
Audiences include:
  • Downtown businesses and residents
  • Businesses and residents within a half-hour drive
  • Potential investors or new businesses
  • Visitors (work with CVB)

Farmers Market Committee
Celebrate and support our local growers and artisans through a market that provides income for vendors, excellent goods for customers and a gathering place for the community

Recruit and retain vendors:
  • Review applications from farmers and artisans
  • Welcome new vendors
  • Encourage spirit of cooperation among vendors
  • Respond to suggestions from vendors

Market the market:
  • participate in marketing efforts, including putting up signs and posting on social media
  • distribute Sprouts Bucks to schools
  • plan and participate in special events at the market

Encourage community gathering:
  • Welcome customers
  • Recruit musicians
  • Promote the spirit of the market, "soak up the kindness"
